The Durian Form

An Architecture
Born from Fruit

Davao City is the “Land of Promise,” and its most iconic fruit, the durian — “King of Fruits” — embodies boldness, cultural identity, resilience, and community. Two geometric systems derived from the durian's structure form the DNA of Davcon Maa's architecture.

Delaunay Triangle Pattern

Named after mathematician Boris Delaunay (1934). The exterior shell of the durian is formed through triangulation: the shell's tips are mapped to a point system and randomised to produce the final faceted pattern. This triangulated mesh forms the building's structural outer skin.

Voronoi Pattern

Named after mathematician George Voronoi (1908). The inner skin of the durian is patterned by Voronoi regions: space is divided into cells based on proximity to the durian seeds, creating the organic, cellular surface that breathes with light and shadow throughout the day.

Mount Apo's Three Peaks

The Mountain
in Every Line

The three peaks of Mount Apo, the highest summit in the Philippines, serve as a cultural and spiritual landmark, embodying the interconnectedness of nature, indigenous cultures, and spirituality. Three design principles translate this into architecture:

Undulating Flowing horizontal bands that trace the mountain's contours across the building's profile, grounding it in the Davao landscape.
Folding Geometric folds that create depth and dramatic shadow, echoing the ridge geometry of the three peaks against the skyline.
Overlaying Layered planes that build the three-dimensional volume, each stratum reading separately yet forming one coherent, mountainous whole.

Materials & Palette

Rooted in
Mindanao

Earthy ochres, warm neutrals, raw stone, and expanses of glass. The palette is intentionally rooted in Mindanao's natural landscape: the red clay of the highlands, the warm timber of the forests, and the clear glass that invites Davao's generous sunlight deep into every space.

The building breathes. Every material choice reflects Davao's character, warm, resilient, and full of light.
